Headlines Change. A Long-Term Investing Strategy Still Works

The news only cares about one thing: getting you to tune in tomorrow. There is no shortage of headlines designed to create worry, shake confidence, or make it feel like the world is on the brink of disaster.
One chart I often find helpful comes from First Trust. It shows how the S&P 500 has performed since 1970, alongside many of the major headlines investors lived through along the way.

Technological shifts like the introduction of the PC and the iPhone.
Nuclear accidents such as Three Mile Island.
Wars and terrorist attacks.
Natural disasters including hurricanes and wildfires.
There is no shortage of groundbreaking and industry-changing events on this list. Yet over the last 50+ years, the US stock market has continued to move higher and provide strong returns for investors, averaging more than 10% per year.
The only constant is change. The future will always be uncertain.
This is why having a long-term investing strategy still works. At Alpha Financial, we help clients develop a sound investment plan that aligns with their goals, time horizon, and comfort with risk. Just as important, we help them stick with that plan during periods of uncertainty so they can stay invested, sleep at night, and remain focused on what truly matters.
