The Lifetime Gift and Estate Tax Exemption has changed over time. (Roughly speaking, this is the amount you could give away throughout your life and at death.) It was $675,000 per person in 2021; $3.5 million in 2009; $1 million in 2011; $5 million in 2017; and now $12 million in 2023.
One of our most important jobs as advisors is to take advantage of opportunities for our clients. Our clients with estate tax issues know that right now is an opportunity for them to pass on more of their hard-earned wealth tax-free, We're making sure they take action because this opportunity won't be around forever.
